It's a type of sexually transmitted infection (STI), which means it's transmitted through sexual contact. It's rarely seen in the United States.   Chancroid is caused by   the bacterium Haemophilus ducreyi   and results in painful, superficial ulcers, often with regional lymphadenopathy.
